While we don’t get all that much rain here in Southern California, the entire state is in the middle of one of the (potentially) biggest rain storms in months or even years. However, having grown up in Washington state, I know what a real storm looks like, and learned at an early age how to deal with it, and get on with every day life.
When I see rain outside my windows, I want nothing more than a hot cup of coffee, a good book, a nice warm blanket, and hours and hours of free time to spend on the sofa. Unfortunately for most (myself included) the rain doesn’t stop real life, and we have to find a way to get to get around, without catching pneumonia or looking like a drowned cat.

♥ If you have longer hair, twist it around loosely and pull it up with a claw clippy. This will help prevent a lot of the frizz that comes along with a big downpour. Also, keep a shine serum such as Biosilk in your purse, so you can smooth out frizz quickly once back indoors.
♥ Use galoshes, or other rain proof shoes. Really, nothing can make you look and feel worse than cold, wet toes. If you drive it is easy to bring a change of shoes in the car. If you don’t, carry a canvas bag, with your change of shoes in it, then once you put them on, you can slip the rain boots in. Check out the rain boots below by Chooka. Aren’t they fabulous?! I am completely enamored with the Hound’s Tooth pair!

♥ To further eliminate frizz on a rainy day, carry a large scarf or handkerchief in your bag to tie around your hair when outside. The moisture in the air will have a lot harder time getting your tresses to stand on end.
♥ Wear fabrics that dry quickly. Man made fabrics such as acrylic, nylon, and polyester dry incredibly quickly (especially polyester). Most of you are probably pretty hesitant before pulling out that polyester jumpsuit, so look for blended fabrics, which have any of those three fabrics in it as well.
♥ Carry a mini umbrella that can fold up into a size small enough to fit inside your purse or glove box. I like to carry one of these around in my car when I go almost anywhere. I takes up close to no room, and has saved me numerous times!
♥ On rainy days use only minimal amounts of makeup. As soon as the rain hits your face that foundation will be running down your face. Stick with just the waterproof mascara. If you need more, say for a job interview, bring it with you, arrive early, and freshen up in the lady’s room before going to meet your future boss.
♥ If all else fails…jump in, and splash around! Rainfall can make you feel alive, and is beautiful. Grab your honey, put on your galoshes, and celebrate mother nature!
