What a wonderful response everyone gave me to the first ever ‘What I’m Wishing‘. Seeing everyone’s imagination, daydreams, and outfits really inspired me to keep this fun little section going.
It feels so nice to step away from reality once in a while, and create moments of pure bliss…even if they are just in our heads! I really hope that we can keep this segment alive, and continue to outdo ourselves on a weekly basis.
What is my current wish?
I wish I were sitting in an outdoor cafe in Paris, sipping a piping hot cup of coffee with soy milk and one sugar cube while watching the people walk by. Of course no one pays any attention to me while I watch them, because I am incognito, and am gazing over the top of a French fashion magazine. A mother and her five year old daughter walk by with a handful of collars attached to three untrimmed, white toy poodles. A server comes to my table and delivers me a few slices of fresh baked bread with some butter on the side. As I spread the melting butter across the hot bread, I look over and see an old couple romancing each other over éclairs and tea. A man selling flowers comes by, and the older gentleman buys a rose for the lady. She blushes, and says something to him in Portuguese. As the day wears on, I leave the cafe and wander through the city, stopping to look in the windows of several shops. I find a small produce stand with the freshest fruits and vegetables. I buy a bag full of vegetables and head back to my hotel room. I saute up the vegetables and sit on my balcony watching the city fall asleep.

I used to have the Paris Cafe fantasy all the time…in it I was wearing the most perfect pair of jeans ever, a black leather jacket, ballet flats and reading a book. My hair looked perfect.

I am snowshoeing across a calm, silent field surrounded by huge pine trees, it’s been a long, tough workout in my sporty little black quilted ski suit. Soon I’ll be back at the condo for a hot shower, change into dark blue jeans, dangly golden earrings, tan leather boots and a cozy pale purple cowlneck sweater to go meet my hubby for wine and pasta at the local dive.

I’m a little under-educated about the area I want to go to in my wish! So it’s big time fantasy.
I wish I was in the Black Forest in Germany! I have heard that it is not the magical wooded wonderland that I imagine it to be, but I want to go to the Black Forest as portrayed in the movie “Total Eclipse.” I’d take a wander through the Black Forest on a brillantly sunny day. Later I’d take a train past the Bavarian Alps and on to Munich, to paw through record stores for funny German issues of 60s records. And of course, drink some beer in a beer hall!

I wish I were visiting Brazil with my husband, who spent his teen years there. We’ll walk through the streets of the smaller cities that tourists rarely visit, soaking in the hot, red Brazilian sun. The heat radiates off the tin and ceramic roofing of the buildings, cramped together with barely any space between them. A bus rumbles by, with chickens inside and people hanging onto the outside.
My husband’s Portuguese is coming back to him quickly, and I look in awe as he rambles away with a native Brazilian, glancing over at me after a few moments to flash me his beautiful smile and translate.
We stop by at a local churrascaria, eating more great picana than we truly can hold, downing it what guarana. As we step up to leave, he leans over and kiss my neck, whispering something in Portuguese and then “I love you”.

Morgan- What fun! Brazil is one of the top places I would like to see. Great details in your wish, it really helps it to come alive for us too! The outfit is wonderful, the colors just scream Brazil!

I wish I was on my own private beach on Martha’s Vineyard, where I own a beautiful renovated farmhouse with land down to the waterfront (but of course). I go for a long run on the beach, it is a beautiful cool clear sunny day, and then I go down to the Black Dog Bakery in Vineyard Haven - watch the ferries come in and out - sit at a table with some tea and a chocolate chip brownie - and write for as long as I want.
Oh, if only!
