Alternative Date Ideas for Valentine’s Day

In my opinion Valentines Day is for lazy lovers. It is a day that couples are required to dress up, be romantic and buy roses to express their love. But if you love someone wouldn’t you want to do that whenever the mood strikes you instead of someone designating a time to show your love?

Nevertheless, it is sometimes fun to be overly romantic and goofy, especially if you can do it in a more original way than dinner and a movie.

Put on your sneakers a go play some miniature golf. Whoever wins owes the other ice cream.

Late night picnic. Tell your special someone to meet you after dark at the beach or in a park. Bring a blanket, a picnic basket, and some champagne. Enjoy the stars, and the peace and quiet of nature.

Decorate cookies or cupcakes with colored frosting, sprinkles, and little candies.

Rent horror movies. Slasher films such as Prom Night will really set the mood for a good Valentines Day!

Boardwalk. Save up your quarters, and head down to the boardwalk. Challenge your honey to a game of air hockey, and see who can end the night with the most tickets. Make the day of a child by giving them your tickets before leaving.

Cook together. Make something hands on, that you can both be involved in. Pizza or lasagna are fun, and very hands on.

Invite your single girlfriends to a girls night out. Go overboard in getting ready, get completely dolled up, then go somewhere like a neighborhood dive bar.

Put on your coat and scarf, grab some coffee and go people watching in an area with a lot of restaurants. Watching others act romantic can be highly entertaining.

Go ice skating. If you are in North America find a rink in your area on Arena Maps.

Go dancing. Find a studio where you can take dance lessons, and sign up for salsa or swing lessons.

Have you made plans yet for your Valentines Day? What are some of the more creative dates you have had?

Ha! We made pizza together last night, although we’ve done it before. I’m good at making the dough, but he is better at making it look like anything resembling a pizza. We’re both good at eating it.

These are some fun ideas. You are chock full of great ideas about many things! To add to the fun ideas, one of our favourite things to do is take our sledding stuff (flying saucer!) to the local hill after dark and go tobogganing. Last year we had a snowball fight (it was a draw until I caught it full in the face!) and then go home and have hot chocolate. We don’t have a boardwalk, but we have snow aplenty.

We like to cook together too, it was heart shaped choc chip pancakes last year and will be an all red pizza this year (well, the cheese is a lavender cabernet infused cheddar)!
